Clarendon is planning to welcome a large crowd of visitors this weekend with several activities planned Friday through Sunday, May 6-7.
Trades days, a rough stock rodeo, and a barbecue cookoff will give locals and out-of-towners alike lots of options for things to do.
The second monthly Whistle-Stop Trade Days opens Friday at noon and will continue Saturday and Sunday.
The April trade days had an incredible opening, and more vendors are expected to be on hand this weekend for the second month.
The Whistle-Stop, at the former Chamberlain Motor Co. location on East US 287, features more than 100 different vendors carrying a wide variety of goods along with food booths, live music, and a beer garden located on the north side of the building. Parking for the trade days is at the COEA Arena with shuttles running shoppers to and from their vehicles.
Speaking of the Arena, the Clarendon Outdoor Entertainment Association is hosting its first Saints’ Roost Rough Stock Challenge this Saturday. Activities begin at 1 p.m. with a horseshoe and washer pitching contest that will run most of the afternoon before the rodeo begins at 6 p.m.
The Rough Stock Challenge will feature Ranch Bronc Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, and Bull Riding. The Buster Bledsoe Band will entertain on the COEA Slab after the rodeo.
Admission for the Rough Stock Challenge is $10 for adults and $5 for kids age 12 and under.
COEA will also be serving pulled pork sandwiches with chips near the Slab for $5 beginning at 4 p.m., and Boy Scout Troop 433 will be serving drinks and other concessions at its south stand in the Arena throughout the day.
Also on Saturday, the second annual Cross Country BBQ Cookoff will be held at the First United Methodist Church and will feature barbecue brisket, a Christian concert, and a car show. The music begins at 11 a.m., the Methodist youth will sell hamburgers at 11:30, and the brisket meal will be at 5:30.
