Hedley High School has named Kelsey Wells and Adam Bernal as their top students for the Class of 2016.
Wells and Bernal will be honored during commencement exercises in the Owl Gym on Saturday, May 28.
This year’s valedictorian is Kelsey Wells with a grade average of 94.843. She is the daughter of David and Christina Wells.
She has been a cheerleader for four years and was involved in UIL current events her freshman and senior years and UIL calculator and dictionary her freshman year. She has been a class officer all four years and president her sophomore, junior, and senior years.
Kelsey has played tennis three years and has been a member of NHS for three years and an officer of NHS for two years. She has also been in One Act Play for three years and has been in yearbook staff for two years. She placed fifth in current events this year and has been named the Hedley Lions Club Sweetheart and the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce’s Young Woman of the Year.
After high school Kelsey plans on going to Clarendon College to get her associate’s degree and then transfer to West Texas A&M University where she will obtain and bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and be certified in early childhood through sixth grade education.
This year’s salutatorian is Adam Bernal, who has a grade average of 91.032 and is the son of Korana and Rafael Martinez.
Adam has attended Hedley High School since the second semester of his freshman year. Has been active in Football and received all-district honors as well as all-region honors. He played tennis for three years, qualifying for regionals twice and state once. He also played basketball and ran track.
Adam has also been a member of National Honor Society for two years where he held the position of treasurer one year and president the next. He has been a class officer for three years holding the positions of vice president and president.
Adam will be attending Howard Payne University where he will continue to study in Physical Education and Coaching, and he will also be a member of the Tennis team.
