Clarendon College’s Wyatt Casper won the 2016 National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association saddle bronc riding title this weekend at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
Wyatt turned in a score of 73.5 during the final round Saturday night and had a four-ride total of 290 points.
In addition to saddle bronc riding, Wyatt competed in team roping heading with his heeling partner, Trevor A. Kirchenschlager of Ranger College. Together they won the second round with a time of 5.0 seconds.
After the team roping round and the saddle bronc riding national championship, Wyatt finished third in the men’s all-around.
Casper already gave Clarendon College national attention earlier this year when he rode in the one-day AMERICAN event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on February 28.
The Balko, Okla., native grew up roping and competed in team roping and tie-down roping before starting in bucking competitions three years ago.
In an interview with Ted Harbin before his AMERICAN ride, Casper credited Clarendon College Rodeo Coach Bret Franks with a large measure of his success.
“He’s been a great role model to me and taught me everything I know about bronc riding,” Casper said of his coach.
Franks said Casper has natural talent and called him a leader on the CC rodeo team.
