Shirley Hearn Thomas, 69, died Thursday, February 16, 2017, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, at the Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Rev. Bryan Valance, pastor of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brooks Funeral Directors.
Shirley was born February 4, 1948, in Clarendon. She graduated from Clarendon High School and attended Clarendon Jr. College for one year. She married Mickey Thomas, of Claude, on August 19, 1967, in Clarendon.
She worked in the Klein and Montgomery school system in Special Education for 16 years. She served in several churches across the country as Mickey’s job required them to move pretty often. She also spent two and a half years working for Back Home in San Antonio as an Assistant Manager.
Shirley and Mickey lived in 19 homes in the almost 50 years that they had been married. Shirley enjoyed decorating each one of them. She also enjoyed fishing, when she caught the biggest fish.
Her greatest joy was in being a mother and a grandmother.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Velma Hearn; three brothers, Claude Hearn, Gene Hearn, and Duane Hearn; and a sister, Viola Hitt.
Survivors include her husband, Mickey Thomas; two daughters, Holly and Heather both of Dallas; son, Scott and daughter-in-law Cynthia of Midland; three granddaughters, Gentry and Hailey Denney of Dallas and Hannah of Austin; one grandson, Brecken, of Dallas; brother, Billy F. Hearn of Montgomery; and sister-in-law, Pat Hearn of Spokane, Washington.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Crown of Texas Hospice Foundation, 5211 SW 9th, Suite 100, Amarillo, TX 79106.
