The Clarendon Broncos baseball team is sweeping through opponents game after game and recently blasted the Claude Mustangs 18-0.
Chance Lockhart earned the win for the Broncos as he pitched three innings and only gave up one hit. Lockhart did not allow any runs or walks and struck out two. Andy Davis also threw one inning in the game.
Once again, the Broncos used a huge first inning to set the tempo and grab the early lead. Josh Cobb hit another home run and Kade Hunsaker and Payton Hicks each slammed a double. Brothers Noab and Preston Elam each singled in the inning to help the Broncos. The Broncos had their bats going and accounted for 14 hits in the game. Hicks, Lockhart, Hunsaker, and Elam all had several hits with Hunsaker, Elam, and Hicks driving in three runs each to help on the score board. They were unstoppable on the diamond as well and racked up several stolen bases.
On Friday, the Broncos used a huge fourth inning to capture the lead in the first game of a double-header against Valley at home after trading runs with the Patriots early in the game. The Broncos took both games with a 14-4 win in the first and a shutout at 13-0 in the second.
Josh Cobb got the Broncos on the board in the first with a double that scored one run. Nick Shadle helped to add to the scoring with singles in the third and fourth innings. Shadle finished the game going 2 for 3 from the plate. Cobb was on the mound for the Broncos early on for almost three innings. During his time, he gave up four runs and four hits, while striking out four. Clay Koetting took over to finish the game and recording zero runs and hits, three strikeouts and no walks for his time.
The Broncos had their bats going once again as Koetting, Cobb, and Shadle each had several hits in the game. Shadle lit up the base running once again with three stolen bases and helped the Broncos post 11 stolen bases in the game.
Kade Hunsaker got the call in the second half of the double-header and threw three innings. He had one hit and one walk, while striking out five batters. The second inning was the game beater as the Broncos earned nine of their 13 runs in that inning. Koetting, Shadle, and Hunsaker all posted singles to help their team and Chance Lockhart turned up the heat from the plate and brought home several runners. Preston Elam posted three stolen bases in the game as the Broncos had seven players who grabbed two stolen bases each.
The Broncos will play Childress at home on Friday, April 14, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and travel to Memphis on Tuesday, April 18. They will play at home against Nazareth on April 21 and one on the road to Wellington April 25.
