The Lady Broncos posted two big wins last week to improve to 6-4 in District and 10-7 overall. They defeated Gruver at home 19-3 and ousted Fritch 13-2.
“It was a pretty good week for us,” head coach Gary Jack said. “We finally had two games where everybody was available. It was good getting everyone all together.”
Briley Chadwick pitched for the Lady Broncos in the Gruver game and according to Jack did a great job. “She pitched really well,” said Jack. “And our defense played well, too.”
Jack noted that the outfield made some really good catches and the infield made routine plays to get the job done.
“Zaryia Smith had a big hit for us and knocked in two runs,” Jack said. “And Brianna Butler, Allyson Hogan, Jensen Hatley, and Emily Johnson all had good hits in the game. “We jumped on them early,” Jack said. “Their pitching struggled. We needed that. It was a good win.”
The Lady Broncos’ win over Fritch was big as well. Chadwick was on the mound again and according to Jack, it was her best game pitching all year. Chadwick posted 10 strikeouts and zero walks.
The ladies were on their way to a shutout and led 7-0 in the bottom of the seventh. A couple of Lady Bronco bobbles gave Fritch the two runs they finished with to avoid the shutout. Overall, Jack felt that their defense was ‘nearly flawless’.
On the offensive side, Jack noted that Hatley, Butler, Hogan, Hannah Hommel, Johnson, and Chadwick all hit the ball well.
“We are in good shape,” Jack said. “It was really good to have all the team together so we could take care of business. Every team in our district is pretty competitive and capable of beating each other.”
The Lady Broncos will have Claude at home on April 14 at noon before traveling to Booker on April 18. They will host Memphis on April 21, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
