The Lady Broncos grabbed two huge wins last week as they run-ruled both Follett and Claude. The wins put them at 8-4 in District play and 12-7 overall.
The ladies took care of business in a big way against Follett defeating them 27-8. According to head coach Gary Jack, the Lady Broncos jumped on their opponent early and took a quick 12-3 advantage.
“It was kind of a crazy game at first,” Jack said. “We had a big lead and then they scored four or five runs to make it a game.”
After the scare, the ladies got down to business and scored enough runs the next inning to take advantage of the run rule to get the win.Briley Chadwick was on the mound and did a good job for the Lady Broncos.
“Defensively, we did what we needed to do,” Jack said. Offensively, the Lady Broncos had the wood going. “We all hit the ball well,” Jack said. “Jensen (Hatley), Brianna (Butler), Hannah (Hommel), Briley, and Zaryia (Smith) all did a good job. We took care of business.”
The Lady Broncos made short work of Claude on Friday and earned a 20-10 win in the fifth.
Butler was on the mound for the first three innings and Chadwick came into take over in the final innings.
“This was another crazy game early on,” Jack said. “Claude probably played one of their better games of the season. We were ahead 9-7 in the fourth and they got a couple of hits to lead by one.”
But going into the fifth, the Lady Broncos knew they had to go to work. Because of strong bats at the plate, the ladies scored 11 runs to get another run-rule win.
“The girls hit the ball well,” Jack said. “Darcy Hunsaker went four for four. She had two doubles and two triples. Allyson (Hogan) had big hits for us and Hannah and Jensen hit the ball well. We all started hitting and got on a roll.”
The Lady Broncos will take on Memphis at home on Friday, April 21, at 4:00 p.m. to end their regular season.
“This will be a big game for us,” Jack said. “We need to win these last games.”
