The Bronco baseball team had an easy go of it last Friday in the Bi-District round of the playoffs as they took down Boys Ranch 20-0 in five innings.
The Broncos had the game well in hand, but a huge fourth inning sealed the win. Hurler Kade Hunsaker got the win for the Broncos, throwing a no-hitter and striking out nine. Andy Davis was behind the plate.
Things began early for the Broncos as they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. But the fourth proved to be the deal breaker for the Rough Riders as the Broncos scored 18 runs to grab the win.
Along with hits by Chance Lockhart, Nick Shadle, and Hunsaker, the Broncos’ biggest game clincher was Preston Elam’s in-the-park grand slam in that inning. Elam hit a line drive to center field that Boys Ranch could not handle. Payton Havens, Clay Koetting, Josh Cobb, Payton Hicks, Nathan Shadle, Isaac Dunham, and Eastin Goodpasture all added to the run count in the fourth as the Broncos dominated at the plate.
The win will send the Broncos to the next round where they will face off against New Deal in a best two-out-of-three series. Game one will be held in Clarendon on Thursday, May 11, at 5:00 p.m. Game two will be held on Saturday, May 13, at 7:00 p.m. in Hermleigh, Texas. If a game three is needed, it will be played directly after game two.
