A Donley County family came home to an unpleasant scene last Friday when they discovered their home on fire.
Clarendon Fire Chief Jeremy Powell said the Shaun O’Keefe family arrived at their residence on North Hwy 70 shortly after 5:00 p.m. on September 1 and noticed nothing out of the ordinary at first.
“Then they opened the front door and smoke rolled out,” Powell said.
The family called 911, and the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department soon arrived to find the doublewide mobile home partially involved with flames visible.
“The house wasn’t completely burned down, but it was a total loss,” Powell said. “What wasn’t burned suffered smoke and heat damage.”
The fire chief said the blaze appears to have started in either the kitchen or living room, but the cause remains under investigation.
Firefighters stayed on the scene until about 8:30 that evening.
