As residents on the Texas Gulf Coast continue to cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, help for those people is coming from all corners including Donley County.
Several local organizations are actively collected necessities or money for the victims of one of the worst natural disasters in the state’s history.
For those interested in helping other Texans, what follows is a list of the local activities that the Enterprise has learned about.
Clarendon Junior High students are gathering school supplies for a program at Hitchcock ISD in Galveston County. What they need most is composition books, map colors, crayons, construction paper, and pencils. Donations may be brought to the CJH office through Monday morning, September 11.
Clarendon Elementary’s Gifted & Talented students are also collecting personal hygiene items for hurricane victims. The items need to be collected by September 14 and include shampoo and conditioner, body wash, washcloths, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, baby soap, laundry soap, bug guard, socks, Ziplock bags of all sizes, Tylenol and ibuprofen for adults and kids, and hair brushes and combs. Items can be brought to the elementary office or call Mrs. Frausto at 874-3855 and your items can be picked up.
Hedley ISD is partnering with Lefors ISD to help another 6-man football school, High Island ISD. Classes at the schools are competing to see which one can raise the most money. Donations can be made at the school office.
The Clarendon Girl Scouts are collecting diapers and wipes for the Texas Diaper Bank. Contact Deb Dale at 806-406-9333 to participate. These items also need to be collected by September 14. Any size diapers, pull-ups, adult diapers and wipes are requested.

These kits will be delivered to the Church of Christ in League City, which has already been established as a distribution center for the area. The church will be taking donations of these items through this Thursday, September 7.
Clarendon College is encouraging people to support Harvey HELP – a joint effort of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and several other organizations in Texas. The funds raised will directly benefit community college students affected by Hurricane Harvey. Donations can be made at gofundme.com/harveyhelpstudents.
