Billy Neal Spier, 74, of Clarendon died Sunday, June 3, 2018, in Amarillo.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Church of Christ in Clarendon with Chris Moore, officiating.
Cremation & Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mr. Spier was born on May 1, 1944, in Clarendon to J.H. Spier Jr., and Wilma Putman Spier. He graduated from Clarendon High School in 1962 and attended Clarendon College on a basketball scholarship from 1962 to 1965. Bill worked for his dad at Junior’s Grocery Store for many years before opening Spier’s Varity Store in 1972.He worked for Texas Farm Bureau as an insurance agent in the 1980s and was employed as a Texas correctional officer for 18 years. He married Darlene Joy Shields on August 21, 1964.
He was a lifelong resident of Clarendon. He served on the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years, was a member of the Clarendon Jay-Cees and the Clarendon Church of Christ. He was also an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his father J.H. Spier Jr. in 1994; his mother Wilma Putman Spier in 2014; and a brother Lynn Spier in 2018.
Survivors include his wife, of 53 years, Darlene of Clarendon; two daughters Gina Reeves and husband Steve of Cave Creek, Arizona and Brigett Kash of Pflugerville; two grandsons Ty Reeves of Phoenix, Arizona and Cameron Kash of College Station; a brother Mike Spier and wife Neva of Clarendon; and many nieces and nephews.
The family request memorials be sent to the Donley County Senior Citizens or the Donley County Associated Ambulance Authority.
