Rev. Melvin William Clinton, Jr., 88, of Turkey, Texas, died Friday, April 11, 2025, in Silverton.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in the First Baptist Church in Turkey, Texas with Madison Clinton and Les Griffin, officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery in Turkey.
Arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Melvin was born January 11, 1937, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Melvin Edward and Alta King Clinton. He married Guyretta Ruth Baker on June 2, 1957, in Uncas, Oklahoma. Melvin was a longtime Baptist preacher serving churches previously at First Baptist Church in Lamont, Oklahoma, Bethel Baptist Church in Funston, Texas, and since 1973 has been the pastor of First Baptist Church in Turkey, Texas. Melvin was also active in the Kairos and Emmaus ministries. He had served on the Turkey Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service for several years, and was also a member of the Turkey Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on April 20, 2010; a daughter, Debra Zanardi; a son in law, Mark Zanardi; and two sisters, Ida Mae Wright and Roseanne Snodgrass.
Survivors include his son, Gary Clinton and wife Theresa of Silverton; a daughter, Karen Rice and husband Walt of Howardwick; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren with one on the way; a brother, Madison Clinton of Altus, Oklahoma; and a sister, Ellen Neely of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
The family request memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church in Turkey, Texas.
