Thomas Mitchell Gay, 80, died Monday, January 2, 2012, in Hedley.
Services were held Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Hedley First Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Howard, pastor, and Rev. Anthony Knowles, pastor of the Estelline Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was held at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Thomas Gay was born May 15, 1931, in Houston, to Robert Martin and Violet Marie Oatman Gay. He married Jeneda Woodard on June 11, 1955, in Hedley. Thomas worked for himself as a furniture and piano refinisher. Mr. Gay was also licensed Baptist minister as well as a deacon. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He had lived in Hedley and several other places since 1953. In 1993 he moved from Ft. Worth and has been at Hedley since that time. Thomas was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hedley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Norma Howard, Ora Mae Tomanek, Maggie Marie Williams, and Johnny Ray Woodard.
He is survived by his wife, Jeneda Gay of Hedley; four daughters, Diann Evans, Debbie Hanes, Patty Dipprey and husband Mickey, all of Hedley, Becky Allen and husband Mark Kirk of Hobbs, NM; a brother V.R. Gay of Dennison; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
Grandsons of Mr. Gay were the casket bearers.
