Hedley High School has named its top honor students for the Class of 2012. The Valedictorian is Sierra Shelp, and Joseph Allen is the Salutatorian.
Sierra Shelp has a GPA of 93.8286 and is the daughter of Daron Shelp and Christina Henson.
She competed in various activities such as: cross country, basketball, cheerleading, track, and tennis. She advanced to regionals in cross country three years, named All-District first team her junior year in basketball, advanced to area three years in track, and regionals her freshman year. She also competed in science UIL and advanced to regionals her sophomore and senior year.
Shelp held office as class president all four years, was cheerleading captain, basketball captain, and vice president of NHS her senior year. She plans to attend Clarendon College and later pursue a career in the medical field.
Joseph Allen has a GPA of 92.3548 and is the son of Russell Allen and Tiffany Wilkinson.
He played tennis for four years, ran track for two years, and played basketball for two years. He was also involved in One Act Play for four years, was a UIL competitor in number sense for one year and science for four years, and was a member of NHS.
Allen held the office of class reporter during his junior year. He was awarded All Star Cast for 2012 while in OAP and was awarded the Math Honor award during his freshmen and junior year.
He plans on attending Clarendon College for two years, and later on attending Texas Tech University the remainder of his years where he will major in mathematics.
