Clarendon Cub Scout Pack 437 had a fun-filled day with a Rain Gutter Regatta and Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, November 17, at the First Christian Church.
More than 15 boys participated in the regatta, in which boys blow homemade model sailboats through ten-foot rain gutters in a double elimination tournament. Wolf Cub Brandon Hatfield won first place in his den and also won first place overall for the pack. Steven Mills won first place in the Tiger Cubs, Matthew Powell was first in Bear Cubs, and Trent Smith was first in the Webelos Den.
During secret balloting prior to the race, Webelos Scout Wesley Powell was selected as the winner of the Best of Show division for his beautifully finished boat.
Following a wonderful Thanksgiving meal enjoyed by about 60 Scouts, leaders, and family members, several boys were recognized with the Bobcat badge, which is the first step in Cub Scouting. In Cub Scout tradition, the badge was pinned upside down on the boys’ shirts with instructions to parents that the badge only be turned right side up after the Cub had performed a good deed.
Those receiving Bobcat badges were Damien Jaramillo, Steven Mills, Jmaury Davis, Justin Couture, Brandon Hatfield, Lyric Smith, Jaxan McAnear, Jacquaviyon Brown, Harrison Howard, and Nathan Estlack.
Also receiving awards was Wesley Patton, who received Webelos achievement awards for Communicating, Geology, Weather, and Outdoor Activities. If you know of a boy in the first through fifth grades who might be interested in Cub Scouting, please contact Mandy Jaramillo at 677-8709 or Cubmaster Roger Estlack at 874-2259.
