With very limited practice time, the Lady Broncos softball team scored a big win over the Fritch at home on Saturday. They defeated the Lady Eagles, 12-7. Senior Jency Burton was on the mound and, according to head coach Gary Jack, pitched a good game. Fellow senior Audrey Shelton was behind the plate.
“Jency pitched the entire game and did very well and Audrey caught for her,” Jack said. “Audrey had a couple of nice hits, and Maci White had a very good game defensively, recording 10 outs and she hit well, too.”
Jack also added that Camra Smith made some good defensive plays on third base, and Taylor Gaines, Haley Ferguson, and Savannah Topper played their positions well, also.
“Jentry Shadle had a couple of hits for us,” Jack said. “And Taylor made a good play in the outfield and hit well. Skyler White had a big hit in the sixth inning. We only had two practices and played pretty well. Even at that, half the girls only made one practice. Overall, it was a very good start.”
The junior varsity Lady Broncos played also and won 15-14. Phara Berry and Sterling King pitched the game and Haley Ferguson caught. According to Jack, Audra Thomas hit the ball very well and Kendra Davis made some good plays.
“Everybody got to play some, and that was good,” Jack added.
The Lady Broncos will play a district game at home on Thursday, March 7, against Follett beginning at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, the ladies will play in Childress in a round robin tournament beginning at 9:00 against Quanah, then at noon against the host team, and again at 3:00 against Hale Center.
