The Bronco baseball team took on Quanah over spring break and finished with one win and one loss against the Indians. They defeated the Indians 6-4 in the first game and lost 1-9 in the second.
According to head coach Brad Elam, the Broncos started off a little slow and trailed the Indians 1-3 before taking a lead in the fifth.
“We finally started hitting their pitcher,” Elam said.
Dillon Nickel hit a double and scored two runs, and Rowdy Speed had a double and scored one run. Cole Ward had two doubles and two runs and Caleb Cobb had a double and two RBIs. Adam Topper walked twice and had one hit.
“Topper was also outstanding on the mound,” Elam said. “He limited Quanah to four runs and our defense played great the entire game.”
“Our pitching struggled and we didn’t hit much in game two,” Elam said. “We walked 11 in the second game and it is hard to win with that many walks. They pitched their best pitcher in this game, and he is pretty good.”
The Broncos were able to get runners on in most innings, but were unable to push them across the bag. The Broncos’ only run came when Caleb Cobb doubled in Rowdy Speed.
“Quanah is supposed to win their district, so I was very pleased in how well we played,” Elam said. “This was the best pitching we have seen.”
The Broncos will play a district game against West Texas on Saturday, March 23, on the road at 1:00 p.m. They will travel to Claude on Tuesday, March 26.
