Rachel Berniece Crocker, 92, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Amarillo.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, in the Church of Christ in Clarendon with Don Stone officiating.
Burial will follow at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.
Arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Berniece was born June 30, 1920, in Mount Vernon, Texas to Benjamin Octavius Brooks and Vertie Lee Kolb Brooks. She was a lifelong resident of the Texas panhandle. She lived in Panhandle for over 20 years, Amarillo for 10 years, and in Clarendon for 33 years.
For the past three years, she had resided with her son, Tim and his family in Amarillo. Berniece married Odis Orvis Crocker on January 23, 1938, at Shamrock, Texas. They raised 5 daughters and a son. For years she owned and operated her own beauty salon in Pantex Village, Texas. Throughout her life, she worked relentlessly to provide a loving home for her family. She was a devoted Christian and member of the Church of Christ in Clarendon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Orvis on December 18, 2000; 2 daughters, Rachel Lee Tandy and Orvis Jean Cates; 2 brothers, Jack and JN Brooks; and by 3 sisters, Ruth Pitcock, Louise Hurst, and Darline Weist.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Patricia Conser of Ormond Beach, FL, Emma Jo Reed of Arlington, TX, Linda Kay Mason of Fairbanks, AK; a son, Timothy Ronald Landon and wife Kristi of Amarillo, TX; a sister, Toni Cole. She was Granny to 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and had countless extended family and friends, all of whom she loved and cherished dearly.
She will lie in state at the funeral home beginning on Thursday and family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
