The 2013 Clarendon Bronco football team has been practicing together since the first of August and tested their skills in a scrimmage against Bovina last week with good results according to head coach Gary Jack.
They were able to outscore Bovina three touchdowns to two while dominating most of the game. Jack knows this year’s Broncos are young, but holds out hope for the team because of their work ethic so far.
“We know we are pretty young,” Jack said. “But overall we were really pleased. The kids have worked really hard. Our older kids looked good and we were able to get a good look at the younger kids.”
Jack noted that the coaches had a good chance to move kids around in the scrimmage to see the things they needed to see.
“They did a lot of good things,” Jack said. “And we made a few mistakes, too. But they are things we can correct and it was a good test for us.”
Right now the Broncos have 37 kids suited up for football and will be able to play a junior varsity schedule. According to Jack, they will do that as long as they can so the younger kids can get playing time.
The Broncos will host Electra on Friday, August 23, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in another scrimmage before they open regular season play on Friday, August 30, at Tulia beginning at 7:30 p.m.
