Don Barker, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.
Services were held October 29, in Temple Baptist Church with the Revs. Troy Richardson and Chad Mantooth officiating. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Don was born on April 23, 1930, in Ashtola to Carl and Nova Ann Barker. He was raised in Clarendon and attended Leila Lake School.
He was a graduate of Clarendon High School and also attended Clarendon Junior College. Don served his country in the Army from 1951 until 1953. He moved to Lubbock in 1950 to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He moved to Amarillo in 1957 from Midland.
He married Gaynell Scott in 1958 in Amarillo. He worked for SBC until 1984. He retired from AT&T in 1990; he had 40 years of service with the telephone company.
He was a member and deacon of Temple Baptist Church for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Don Scholz; five sisters, Mildred Tomlinson, Viola Graham, Nova Mooring, Vera Nobles and Mamie Clark; and a brother, Earl Barker.
He is survived by his wife Gaynell of Amarillo; a daughter, Brenda Scholz; and a son Gary Don Barker and wife Sheila of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Murff of Snyder; three grandchildren, David, Austin and Macy; and two great- grandchildren, Dayton and Sophie.
