Truett Hall was born November 17, 1927, in Gruver, Texas to Durell K. and Dessie McFarland Hall. He married Fern O. Gibbs on May 13, 1948, in Amarillo. Mr. Hall had served his country in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II. Truett attended the Naylor School, where he rode his horse to school. The house where Truett had lived most his life was less than a mile from where he started first grade. He grew up working in the dairy business near Hedley and eventually would run the dairy at Wayside in the 1950’s. Truett coached many kids with the Kids, Inc. program in Amarillo as his children grew up. Mr. Hall was a hard worker and saw that he and his family were always taken care of. Truett had built several homes in the Clarendon area, including the First Church of the Nazarene parsonage and had done most of the carpentry work during the construction of the First Baptist Church. Most of all, Truett loved to farm and ranch. He was self-sufficient in his work, but always was willing to help others, especially his family when it came time to harvest. Truett was a quiet man that kept to himself, but when he spoke, people listened. He was a member of the VFW in Clarendon and was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern Hall; a brother, Emmett Hall; a sister, Vivian Harris; and by a grandchild, Charlie “Gene” Hall.
He is survived by 2 sons, James Hall of Chelton, Texas, John Hall and wife Loretta of Hedley; 2 daughters, Shirley McCulloch and husband Michael of Clarendon, and Truetta Brandt and husband Gerald of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
