Clarendon Family Medical Center is proud to announce the addition of a new member to their staff, Brandon Phipps, who has been working as a Physician’s Assistant at the clinic for about two weeks.
Phipps grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, before graduating from the University of Utah and studying to be a P.A. at the Nova Southeast University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Medicine wasn’t the first career choice for Phipps, who started in real estate marketing.
“I decided a few years ago that there was more I should be doing with my life,” Phipps said.
So inspired by a family member, he shadowed and allergist P.A. and learned how much Physicians Assistants could impact people’s health and make a positive difference.
Dr. John Howard recruited Phipps in May, and the young man moved to Clarendon this month with his wife, Carrie, and their three children – Callie, 11; Nikki, 8; and Parker, 6.
“Dr. Howard was looking for a family man… someone who could work with his practice and become part of the community,” Phipps said.
The new PA takes the place of Devah Pittman who left the practice in June, and will take some of Howard’s patients when the doctor takes office as county judge in January.
“I’ll make house calls when necessary and be on call every third weekend,” Phipps said.
Coming to a quality clinic like Dr. Howard’s has been important for Phipps.
“I’m honored to work with [fellow PAs] Sarah Burcham and Misty Nobles,” he said. “Sarah is a mentor and now a neighbor. It’s nice to have someone with a similar background.”
Phipps says he enjoys Clarendon and the people of the community.
“It’s nice to know the people I’m treating are my neighbors,” he said. “Carrie likes being here and being able to walk the kids to school. I’m grateful to Lori and Dr. Howard for helping us get settled. It’s nice to have an employer who is so involved in the community.”
Phipps is now seeing patients in the mornings and will begin seeing patients full time next week.
