The Lady Broncos turned in a solid game against the Lady Patriots on December 16 but could not overcome a third-quarter deficit and were defeated, 50-65.
After a close first period, the Lady Broncos struggled somewhat, which gave the Lady Pats the advantage early on. The third quarter hit the ladies hard, and they were unable to keep the offensive rhythm going against their opponent. Despite the loss, coach Kalen Grahn felt the ladies played hard.
“It was a great game for us,” Grahn said. “We played hard, we ran into foul trouble, so our young girls gained some valuable varsity time. Skyler White had a nice game offensively. Jensen Hatley gained a lot of experience against a very solid point guard. The girls played hard, we had nothing to hang our heads about.”
Taylor DeGrate put in 16 points, and Carlee Johnson added 11 going three for four from the bonus. Taylor Gaines had a great night from the free throw line making good on seven out of eight and putting in one field goal for nine points. Skyler White worked hard from her position and had eight, and Hannah Howard and Briley Chadwick helped with two each. Hannah Hommel connected on one free throw. The team shot 78 percent from the charity stripe.
The ladies will travel to Fritch January 2 and take on White Deer at home January 6.
