Jon Lacel Gorder, 75, died Saturday, November 14, 2015, in Amarillo.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2015, in the First Baptist Church in Howardwick with Rev. Dave Stout and Steve Carter, officiating.
Cremation & arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Jon was born December 25, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa to Benson Chriss and Doris O’Rear Gorder. He married Gladys Marie Greig on January 15, 1971, in Ellendale, North Dakota. While growing up in Sheldon, Iowa Jon’s high school team hadn’t won a game in 42 years and Jon scored a winning touchdown in a game to break the losing streak. He had been a resident of Mesquite and Amarillo before moving to Clarendon in 2003. He volunteered at Donley County Senior Citizens in Clarendon for 5 years and helped with Christ Kids Ministries. He gave a 100% in everything he did. He was a loving, humble, and wonderful husband. He was also a most wonderful dad, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, and loving friend. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Howardwick.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Gorder of Clarendon; 4 sons, Jack Blocker and Tim Blocker both of California, Chris Gorder of Louisiana, and Kelby Kilber of Texas; 3 daughters, Teena McClellan and Kandy Hammer both of Oklahoma, and Penny McVay of Louisiana; 2 sisters, Jan Sommer of Texas and Denise Hall of Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
