Larry D. Young, 65, of Howardwick, passed on November 23, 2015, in Amarillo.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Mark Lang, rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Young was born August 7, 1950, in Pampa to Elmer D. and Pat Young. He attended Pampa schools, graduating from Pampa High School in 1968. Larry attended various colleges while working an assortment of jobs, graduating with a B.S. degree from Sam Houston State University in 1974.
Larry was an instrument technician at Celanese Corporation for 14 years, then found the job he considered most rewarding and enjoyable, teaching process measurement and control engineering at Amarillo College. While at the college, Larry was a department academic advisor on the commencement committee and on the industry advisory committee for curriculum development. He was a member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association and an active member in the Instrument Society of America. He was nominated by students for three years to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.” Larry was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Pampa.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Young of Kingwood; a sister, Lana Moehr and her husband Doug of Forgan, Oklahoma; an uncle, Charles Gurley of Pampa; two nephews, David Waters and wife Chelsy of Forgan, Oklahoma, and Daniel Myers of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one great nephew, three great nieces, and many very good friends.
