Elvera J. Bercini “Elvie” Shields, 96, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, in Howardwick.
Private graveside services were held Monday, March 21, 2016, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.
Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mrs. Shields passed from this life on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Mrs. Shields was born January 24, 1920, in Heidelberg, Pennsylvania and was the last of 9 children born to Giuseppe Bercini and Elvera Maria Barbera Thommasi from Marliana, Italy. She married Charles Roland “Chuck” Shields on October 28, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Shields moved to Clarendon in 1961 to farm. She loved life and her Italian heritage. She also enjoyed riding on the back seat of Chuck’s motorcycle, “he did the driving and she did the praying.”. She was a devoted wife, mother, and a very special and fun Granny. Mrs. Shields was a member of the Clarendon Church of Christ. Thank you mom and granny for all the laughter, prayers, silly songs, crazy card games, homemade pies, lasagna, raviolis, and most of all your unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Roland “Chuck” Shields on July 24, 2007; her parents; one sister; and seven brothers.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Darlene Spier and husband Bill of Howardwick and Audrey Hall and husband Jack of Pampa; a son, Tommy Shields and wife Karen of Sherman; 9 grandchildren, Gina Reeves, Brigett Cash, Stephanie Coulter, Stacy Dalton, Caitlan Thornberry, David Hall, Brett Hall, Brandon Shields, Meredith Terrell; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
