The Clarendon College Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead on Luna Community College and captured a 25-0 victory on Saturday, closing a shutout series in which CC bested Luna in four games over two days. Nine runs in the first three innings allowed the Bulldogs to put the game away early Saturday.
A two-run double by Megan McGuire, an RBI single by Natalie De La Rosa, and an RBI double by Briana Cruz in the first inning and an RBI single by Courtney Turner, a sacrifice fly by Megan McGuire, and an RBI single by Cheyenne Hannah during the second inning fueled the Bulldogs’ offense early.
Natalie De La Rosa racked up seven RBIs on four hits for the Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs’ Katherine Betts kept Luna off the scoreboard for all five innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up four. Clarendon easily handled Luna pitching as nine hitters combined for 27 hits, 25 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
Alexis Martinez was charged with the loss. She allowed 25 runs in five innings, walked six and struck out none.
Also Saturday, Clarendon beat Luna 13-4 in seven innings after a seven-run explosion in the second inning. The Lady Bulldogs scored in the second on an RBI single by Haley Rodriguez, a home run by Courtney Turner, an RBI double by Megan McGuire, and an RBI triple by Cheyenne Hannah.
Glorianna Eddy racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Bulldogs. She homered in the first inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
Ryata Daniel got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed four runs over seven innings. She struck out eight, walked two and surrendered nine hits.
Destiny Navarn was the game’s losing pitcher. She allowed 10 runs in two innings, walked four and struck out three.
CC never trailed after scoring three runs in the first on a three-run home run by Eddy.
On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs opened the series with an 8-2 victory over Luna.
Clarendon scored four runs in the sixth with a solo home run by Megan McGuire, a walk by Courtney Turner, and a two-run single by Glorianna Eddy.
Turner racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Ryata Daniel recorded the win for the CC women. She allowed two runs over seven innings. Daniel struck out four, walked none and gave up 10 hits.
Danette Diaz was charged with the loss. She allowed eight runs in seven innings, walked three and struck out two.
The lead stayed with the Lady Bulldogs after the third, when they scored two runs on two doubles.
The Lady Bulldogs got one-run rallies in the fifth inning and the seventh. In the fifth, the Bulldogs scored on a solo home run by Turner.
Later Friday, Clarendon College beat Luna 3-4 in five innings on Friday after a nine-run explosion in the first inning.
CC scored in the first on a sacrifice fly by Courtney Turner, a single by Glorianna Eddy, an RBI single by Natalie De La Rosa, an RBI single by Briana Cruz, an RBI double by Marilyn Brackens, a two-run double by Ryata Daniel, and a two-run home run by Haley Rodriguez.
Katherine Betts recorded the win for the Lady Bulldogs. She allowed four runs over four innings. Betts struck out three, walked one and gave up eight hits.
Clarendon easily handled Luna pitching as six hitters combined for 13 hits, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
D’Ana Gabaldon was charged with the loss. She allowed nine runs in one inning, walked one and struck out one.
The Lady Bulldogs built upon their lead with three runs in the third. Daniel’s single got things going, bringing home Cruz. That was followed up by Rodriguez’s double, plating Alexis Najera.
