Academic competitors from Clarendon High School showed their skills at the district academic meet this past week at Clarendon College.
The Current Issues & Events team of Caleb Cobb, Emilie Thompson, Cooper Bilbrey, and Noab Elam had a fantastic showing, easily placing first as a team. Cobb placed first individually, with Thompson in second, Bilbrey in fifth, and Elam in sixth.
The Number Sense team of Cire Jauregui, Chance Lockhart, Gavin Word, and Marshal Johnson also did well, placing second as a team. Jauregui and Lockhart tied for the first place medal in that event, with Word placing 7th.
The Calculator team also placed second as a team with Lockhart placing fourth and Marshal Johnson sixth. Emily Johnson and Clayton White completed that team.
The Mathematics team of Jauregui, Marshal Johnson, Lockhart, and Philip Monds easily placed first as Jauregui won the gold, Monds took the silver, and Johnson and Lockhart placed fourth and fifth respectively.
The Science team won first place as a team, with Chesson Sims placing first as an individual, first in Chemistry, and first in Physics. Hannah Howard placed second individually, second in Chemistry, and second in Physics. Aubryanna Powell, Bryce Grahn, and Grayson Burch completed that team, with Grahn placing third in Physics.
The Social Studies team also steamrolled their way to victory, with Noab Elam placing first, Colt Wood was second, Alex Bilbrey was fifth, and Caleb Cobb was sixth.
In other events, Kendra Davis was first in Headline Writing. Tate Parker was first in Prose. Gavin Word was fourth and Noab Elam was sixth in Computer Applications. Leslie Coxey placed fifth in Poetry. In Informative Speaking, Caleb Cobb was third and Josh Cobb was sixth. Philip Monds placed sixth in Ready Writing.
Sponsors were pleased with their students’ success as 17 qualified for the regional academic meet April 22-23 at Odessa College.
