John Edward “Ed” Laney, 64, died January 17, 2017, in Childress.

Cremation & arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

John Edward “Ed” Laney was born to Benjamin Laney and Georgia McCormick Laney on April 28, 1952, in Artesia, New Mexico. He married Alma Jean Palmer in Canyon on April 1, 2001. He worked in the oilfield most of his life. He has been a resident of Clarendon for 14 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Pam White, 1 brother Benjamin Laney, and 1 son Ronnie Trest.

He is survived by John is survived by his wife, Alma Jean Laney of Clarendon; 2 sons David Trest of Plainview and John Thomas of Athens, Al; 7 daughters Patricia Trest of Memphis, Donna Esman of Memphis, Rochelle Laney of Gatesville, Shanna Laney of California, Goldie Allen of California, Melissa Sue Ann of California, and Stacy Laney of California; 1 brother Max White of Canyon; 3 sisters Janice Jones of California, Dolores Tamayo of California, and Diane Colbert of Ozona, TX; 5 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
