The Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department recently received a $54,000 grant from the Texas Forest Service to purchase a new fire truck.
The grant, proposed by David Pitts and Fire Chief Delbert Robertson, will require a 10% local match and will be used to purchase a new 1-ton pick-up type brush truck with a 500-gallon tank.
“We’re in the process of trying to find a truck now,” Pitts said. “We’re looking around for the best deal so we can get the most out of the grant money.”
There is a possibility that the new truck may replace a 1980’s fire truck.
“We may retire the older fire truck, but we’ll just have to wait and see,” Pitts said.
