Clarendon High School senior Madie Smith is putting her all on the line in each cross-country meet so far this season. Smith ran to another first-place finish this season in the Groom Invitational at The Cross last Saturday.
Smith topped the field of two-mile runners in a time of 13:49.46. Gracie Wilkins had a break-through meet as she finished second with a time of 14:11.09 to help Smith lead their team to the Championship. Avery Sawyer did a good job in fourth at 14:29.24, and Maudi Buckhaults was 10th at 15:48.80 to round out the top 10 runners. Laney Gates ran 13th at 17:16.02, and Laney Rummel was 15th with a time of 17:38.46.
In the varsity men’s division Bryce Williams stayed consistent in the three-mile race finishing sixth with a time of 19:32.52, and Jaxan McAnear ran well and finished just behind Williams in eighth place with a time of 20.03.12.
The runners will travel to Lubbock on September 24 to participate in the Lubbock Invitational at Mae Simmons Park.
