Irene Brock Stewart, 87, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, in Amarillo.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009, in the First United Methodist Church in White Deer with Rev. John Westman, Pastor, officiating. Burial followed at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mrs. Stewart was born September 11, 1921, in Mena, Arkansas, to Roy and Oma Wade Brock. She married Roy Stewart on May 6, 1952, in Clarendon. She attended cosmetology school in Amarillo. She also was a salutatorian of her hotel management class.
She had been a resident of Clarendon before moving to White Deer to open her Beauty Shop. Later, she and her husband moved to Austin where they managed a hotel for 10 years. Then, they moved back to White Deer where they retired and made their home ever since. She was active in Bridge Club in White Deer. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in White Deer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 24, 2001; three brothers, Floyd Brock, Lloyd Brock, and Boyd Brock; and a twin sister, Lorene Riley.
Survivors include two sons, Gayle Stewart of Amarillo, and Gary Stewart and wife Jane of Austin; a brother, Orin Brock of California; two sisters, Marjorie Holland of Lelia Lake, and Mable Dean Wilson of Clarendon; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
