Lorine McAnear

Lorine McAnear, 88, died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Amarillo.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in the First Baptist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Retired Baptist Minister, and Ralph Harmon of Amarillo, officiating.  Burial was held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.  Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon. 

Lorine was born in Gurdon, Arkansas, on June 10, 1918.  She moved with her family to Texas in 1924.  She went to elementary and high school at the Goldston community school north of Clarendon.  She was a great basketball player while attending school there.  Lorine married Alexander Selkirk McAnear on October 26, 1935, at the First Baptist Parsonage in Clarendon.  Lorine and Kirk lived the majority of their lives in Goodnight, where they farmed and raised their seven children.  They later moved to Clarendon in 1969.  Lorine was dearly loved by her family, for whom she gave of herself above and beyond until her death.  Her greatest desire was to see her children realize the bonds of a family and its importance, and to know that each of them would know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.  She spent many hours singing songs to her children and grandchildren and telling them stories of her past.  She enjoyed sewing for her family and was a member of many different quilting clubs.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarendon.

Mrs. McAnear was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk McAnear, on April 22, 1979; four sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include five daughters: Barbara Harmon and husband Ralph, Judy Monk and husband Bill, and Sheliah Babbitt, all of Amarillo, Brenda Barrett of Canyon, Deborah Land, and husband Steve of Panhandle; two sons, Jimmy McAnear and wife Pat, and Cody McAnear all of Clarendon; one sister, Martiel Webb of Amarillo; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Casket Bearers were Roy Harmon, Alex McAnear, Jay Barrett, Steven Monk, Mark Land, and Aaron Babbitt.

Honorary Bearers included grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild of Mrs. McAnear.
