Shirley Gibbs Roberts, age 73, of Amarillo died February 1, 2009
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Brentwood Chapel of Schooler Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Roberts was born August 5, 1935, in Washburn, Texas, to Chris and Emily Gibbs. She attended Amarillo High School. She met and married Carl Roberts in December 1971 in Clovis, NM. She and Carl “retired” in the 1980s and stayed summers at Gravel Lake Campground in Ute Park, NM, for several years. Roberts was the campground organizer and made camping life fun for everyone who visited the campground. She then bought The Stockyards Café and ran it for over twelve years. She then became the owner of The Stockman’s Restaurant. She loved to cook for her family, and being with her family was the joy of her life. She was the one who always brought the family together. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She impacted every life that she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1993, four brothers, one sister, and one grandson, Richard.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth “Missy” Treadway and husband Charlie of Amarillo and Sharon Roberts Little; three sons, Larry Wayne Grady and wife Pat of Phoeniz, AZ, Charlie “Chock” Grady and wife Lana and Ron Grady and wife Kim, both of Amarillo; one sister, Fern Hall and husband Truitt of Clarendon; fifteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
