Funeral services for Onita Rampy Thomas, age 69, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in the First Baptist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Larry White of Amarillo and Rev. Eddy Helms, Pastor of the Faith Baptist Church in Wellington, officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mrs. Thomas died Friday, May 5, 2006, in Clarendon. She was born in Potosi, Texas, and spent her early life in Donley County. She was a resident of Amarillo before returning to Clarendon in 1964. She graduated from Lelia Lake High School in 1954 and then from Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing as an RN. She worked at Northwest Texas Hospital for several years, then Adair Hospital in Clarendon, later at the Donley County Rural Health Clinic, and then the Clarendon Family Medical Center. She had served on the Clarendon College Nursing Advisory Board, the Donley County Hospital District Board of Directors, the Donley County Senior Citizens Board, and with the American Cancer Society – Donley County Chapter. She worked many years as a Boy Scout Mother and was active in many areas of the First Baptist Church. She married Claude Irven “Bud” Thomas on August 17, 1957, at Amarillo. She had been an RN for the past 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 29, 1997; two brothers, Delbert Rampy and Don Rampy; and a sister, Jo Beth Warren.
Survivors include four sons, James Thomas and wife Marva of Clarendon; Irven Thomas and wife Kim of Texoma, Oklahoma; Gary Thomas and wife Judy of Clarendon; and Arlis Thomas of Clarendon; two sisters, Willa Bolin of Texoma, Oklahoma, and Janette Baumberger of Amarillo; three brothers, Troy Rampy of Santa Clara, California; Aubrey Rampy of Engram, Texas; and Lynn Rampy of Las Cruses, New Mexico; and ten grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be to the Donley County Senior Citizens Association in Clarendon.
