Graveside services for Bro. Wilbert “Bernie” Bernabe, age 84, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Baptist Minister, and Rev. Robert Patton, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.
Mr. Bernabe died Saturday, May 6, 2006, in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born February 4, 1922, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Carlos Santana Bernabe and Julia Kronsburg Bernabe. He came to Clarendon in 1976 from Burlington, Iowa. He married Eileen “Tiny” Harmon on February 17, 1946, at St. Louis, Missouri. He worked as a line supervisor at Pantex for 37 years. He was pastor for the First Christian Church in Clarendon and Claude, member of the VFW Post #7782, Masonic Lodge #700 of Clarendon, member of American Legion group 40 and 8, and was Past President of Clarendon Lions Club. He was a veteran of World War II. He lived in New Braunfels for the past five years and was a member of the New Braunfels Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife on December 1, 2000; his parents; and was loved in life by all his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Bernabe and wife Diane of Iowa City, Iowa, and Terry Bernabe and wife Kay of New Braunfels; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
