Melvin Moore, 93, died Friday, October 27, 2006, in Clarendon.
Graveside services and burial were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Rev. Melvin Brooks, Pastor of the St. Stephens Baptist Church in Clarendon, officiating. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Moore was born May 15, 1913, in Morris County, Texas, to Link and Janie Armstrong Moore. He married Mable Gilmore on November 24, 1939, in McKinney. He had been a resident of Clarendon since 1941. He worked as a farmer and also worked at Clarendon College until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Stephens Baptist Church in Clarendon.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on March 18, 1990; and one brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Louise Powell of Wellington and Brenda Kay Moore of Takoma, Washington; three sons, Vernon Moore and Melvin Moore, Jr., both of Amarillo, and Jerry L. Moore of Austin; one brother, M.T. Moore of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
