Funeral services for Edward Davis Sawyer, age 72, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005, in Robertson Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with Rev. James Ivey Edwards, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Masonic graveside rites and interment were in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc..
Mr. Sawyer died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Big Spring. He was born July 21, 1932, in Clarendon and was a lifetime resident of Clarendon except for 1976 to 1981 when he lived in Van Horn. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended Sul Ross University and graduated from Texas Tech University. He was a member of Clarendon Lodge #700. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Clarendon Outdoor Entertainment Association and was a member of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association and the First Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Marilyn McQueen.
Survivors include two sons, Dan Sawyer and Ted Sawyer, both of Clarendon; his step-mother, Gladys Sawyer of Clarendon; 4 grandchildren, Clay Sawyer, Jamie Sawyer, Kalli Sawyer, Misti Watson and husband Cody, all of Clarendon; 5 great grandchildren; a nephew, Geoffey McQueen, and an aunt, Ruth Sawyer, both of California.
Casket bearers were Mike Smith, Fred Molesworth, Wayne Lowe, Don Thornberry, Jim Garland, and Ferol Shelton. Honorary bearers were Jack Clifford, Wayne Riggs, and Clarendon Masonic Lodge #700.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital, the Saints Roost Museum, or Citizens Cemetery Association.
