Funeral services for Allena Nelson, age 78, of Dimmitt, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2005, in the First Baptist Church in Dimmitt with Rev. Howard Rhodes, pastor, and Rev. Bryan Knowles of Clarendon, officiating. Burial was held at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery in Dimmitt under the direction of Foskey-Lilley-McGill of Dimmitt.
Mrs. Nelson died September 17, 2005, in Dimmitt. She was born December 16, 1926, in Acme, Texas. She married R.O. Nelson, Jr. on August 11, 1947, in Abilene. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1998. She graduated from Childress High School and attended Draughn’s Business College in Wichita Falls. She moved to Dimmitt in 1955 from Newlin, Texas. In 1969, she moved to Clarendon where they farmed. She returned to live in Dimmitt in 2000. She was a homemaker and was always active in her church. She was a Baptist. Allena loved gardening and was an avid sports fan. She was a very competitive card and domino player.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jay Nelson on September 3, 1987; her parents, Ben and Hazel Wallace; one brother, Garland Wallace; and two sisters, Ivy McAlister and Dee McDonald.
Survivors include one son, George and Vicki Nelson of Dimmitt; one daughter, Jean Petty of Lubbock; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Lavon Hall of Plainview.
