Funeral services for John Winfield “Blackie” Hartwick, Jr., age 92, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2005, in the Clarendon Church of Christ with Max McClendon, Pastor of the Shamrock Church of Christ, and Eddie Stegal, Pastor, officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Hartwick died Tuesday, September 13, 2005, in Clarendon. He was born September 5, 1913, in Chilton, Texas, and was a resident of Lubbock for several years before moving to Clarendon in 1975. He married Nora Grigg on May 22, 1938, at Houston. He was a pipeline construction supervisor for Houston Construction Co. for much of his life before his retirement. He was a friendly person who never met a stranger. He was a member of a pipeliners union for 55 years and was a member of the Clarendon Church of Christ where he had served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Winfield Hartwick.
Survivors include his wife, Nora of Clarendon; a daughter, Sarah Jane McClendon of Shamrock; one son, George Larry Hartwick of Longview, Washington; one brother, Donald Gene Hartwick of Beaumont; two sisters, Maxine Terry of Henessey, Oklahoma, and Barbara Bond of Beaumont; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
