Funeral services for LeRoy Wayne Campbell, Sr., age 91, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2003, in the First Baptist Church in Claude with Rodney Skelton, son-in-law; Frank Ray Campbell, nephew; and Edwin Campbell, son, officiating. Burial was held in Claude Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Campbell died Friday, February 14, 2003, in Claude. He was born June 28, 1911, in Quitaque, Texas, and had been a resident of Armstrong County for more than 60 years. He married Jennette Moore on March 9, 1947, at Claude. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2001. He had been a rancher most of his life. He served in the 8th Air Force Division of the US Army Air Corps during World War II in London, England. He was a member of the Harold Gist Post of the American Legion in Claude, a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Claude.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra Vincent of Claude, Dianne Ollinger of Claude, and Leslie Skelton of Amarillo; two sons, Edwin Campbell of Clarendon and Wayne Campbell of Plano; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Casket bearers were his grandsons, Brandon Vincent, Jerrid Vincent, Jeremy Vincent, Chad Campbell, Orry Skelton, and Heath Skelton.
