Funeral services for Avis Johnson Fain, age 89, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003, in the St. John The Baptist Episcopal Church in Clarendon with the Rev. Ned Creswell of Amarillo, officiating. Burial was held in Oaks Creek Ranch Cemetery near Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mrs. Fain died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, in Katy, Texas. She was born February 12, 1914, in Red River County, Texas, and was a resident of Estelline before moving to Donley County in 1941. She married Rodney Burchel “Fuzz” Fain on February 26, 1934, at Memphis. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1984. She was a homemaker and ranch wife most of her life. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sisters, Sylvia Copeland of Slaton and Vida Crowder of Yuma, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers were Fred Molesworth, Jack Craft, Bill Craft, Mitchell Martin, Doug Lowe, and Kade Mathews.
