Candidates are beginning to line up for the primaries leading up to next year’s general election.
US Rep. Mac Thornberry of Clarendon announced Monday that he has filed to run for re-election in the 13th Congressional District of Texas. He will be on the Republican ticket.
Joe Hall and Bill Spier have both signed up as Republican candidates for the Precinct 4 Donley County Commissioner’s seat currently held by Bob Trout. Officials at the Donley County Clerk’s Office said Trout does not plan to run for re-election.
Republican Donnie Hall has filed to run for re-election to his Precinct 2 Commissioner’s position.
Precinct 3&4 Justice of the Peace Ann Kennedy announced this week that she will retire at the end of her current term, and Colleen Owens has announced her candidacy as a Democrat for that position.
Other local offices up for election in 2010 include county judge, county treasurer, county clerk, and justice of the peace in Precincts 1&2.
Filing takes place in the county clerk’s office in the Donley County Courthouse Annex and continues through January 4, 2010. Those seeking public office will be required to pay a $750 filing fee or can present a petition to waive the fee.
The primary elections will be held March 2, citizens are reminded to register to vote in the motor vehicle office in the Courthouse Annex if they have not done so.
