Hedley High School officials have announced the honor graduates for the Class of 2010.
This year’s valedictorian is Dylan Pettit with a GPA of 95.4, and Kailee Burton is the salutatorian with a GPA of 94.2. They will both be honored during commencement exercises this Thursday evening at 8:00.
Pettit is the son of Tanja Widener and Brian Pettit. He attended school in Portsmouth, Virginia, from 1996 until 2000, Claude ISD from 2001 – 2004, Memphis ISD from 2004 – 2005 and then transferred to Hedley in 2005.
Dylan has been active in Football and was named to the All District team as Lineback and Fullback his senior year. He has also been active in basketball, tennis, track, FFA, was a state qualifier in UIL Science, a regional qualifier in UIL Number Sense and Mathematics. Dylan made the All Star Cast in One Act Play and was a member of the National Honor Society.
His senior year he was voted Most Likely to Succeed, Mr. HHS, and Super Senior. Dylan’s hobbies include playing all sports, pending time with friends, listening to music and having fun. He plans to attend Texas Tech University after graduation.
Burton is the daughter of Blain and Tanya Burton of Hedley. Kailee attended Gene Howe Elementary from 1996-2002, Greenways Intermediate from 2003-2004, Westover Jr. High from 2004-2005 then transferred to Hedley ISD in 2005. Kailee has been involved in National Honor Society, UIL Science, was a captain in track and cheerleading, played basketball and ran cross country. Kailee was also the FFA, BPA and a Class Secretary.
Kailee has received many honors such as Hedley Homecoming Queen, Miss HHS, best dressed, most talented, most likely to succeed, State UIL team member, Honorable Mention All Star Cast in One Act Play and Class Favorite. Kailee has served as the Hedley Lions Club Sweetheart and was awarded the Donley County Chamber of Commerce Young Woman of the year for 2009.
Kailee is a member of the Hedley First Baptist Church and has been on mission trips to South Texas Children’s Home and Elk City, Idaho. Kailee is currently emplyed at Mike’s Pharmacy in Clarendon and plans to attend Clarendon College after graduation.
Top eighth graders at Hedley this year are Bailey Wood and Kristen Liner. They will be recognized, along with this year’s graduating Kindergartners, during a separate ceremony at 6 p.m.
