Opal Elizabeth James Ramsey, 89, died Friday, November 5, 2010, in Amarillo.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2010, in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Jon Nichols, officiating. Interment was held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Opal was born on May 11, 1921, in Margaret, Foard County, Texas to H.E. and Oma Elizabeth Orr Minyard. She married Clyde James on October 12, 1941, in Waurika, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1977. She later married Floyd Ramsey on November 6, 1987.
He preceded her in death on September 14, 1999. She had been a resident of Clarendon since 1966. Before her retirement, she had worked as Tax Assessor/Collector for the Donley County Hospital District.
She had been a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 6 in Clarendon. She loved cooking for her family and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was involved in many church activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husband; two brothers; and three grandchildren, Kimberly, Jeffrey, and Tom.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Nichols and husband Duane of Crowell, Kathy Baird and husband John of Abilene, Jan Hedger and husband Kenneth and Vikki Stidger and husband Danny all of Amarillo; two step children, Don Ramsey and Barbara Baird; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 1 great great- granddaughter.
Family will receive friends for visitation Sunday from 2:00-4:00 pm at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be to the Alzheimers Association or BSA Hospice.
