Clarendon High School students competed in their first 2014 academic UIL practice meet Saturday at West Texas High School in Stinnett where 11 contestants placed in 12 events. Those placing included seniors Deborah Howard – 1st Features and 4th Headlines; Haley Ferguson – 4th Computer Applications; Darbe Woodard – 2nd Science; Jacy Hill – 2nd News; and Tyler Smith – 3rd Editorials.
Juniors placing included Abby Johnson – 2nd Spelling and Cedrick McCampbell – 4th Science.
Sophomore Caleb Cobb placed 3rd in Current Issues and Events.
Freshmen placing included Chance Lockhart – 5th Number Sense; Riley Shadle – 6th Number Sense; and Taylor Knorpp – 6th Accounting.
The Science team of Woodard and McCampbell along with seniors Austin Lowry and Audra Thomas placed first.
In addition to those who placed, 10 other students practiced their competitions that day. They included senior Zhanae Bassett; junior LeeRoy Buckhaults; sophomores Chesson Sims and Marissa Jaramillo, Emelie Thompson, and Kendra Davis; and freshmen Cire Jauregui, Karleigh Davidson, Aubrey Powell, and Hannah Howard.
