Opal Lorene Hestand Turvaville Scalf, 87, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in Lelia Lake.
Services were held Friday, September 30, 2016, in the Clarendon Church of Christ with family members, officiating.
Burial followed on Saturday, October 1, 2016, in Chillicothe Cemetery in Chillicothe.
Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Lorene was born July 23, 1929, in Olustee, Jackson County, Oklahoma to John Newton Hestand and Josie Adeline Burleson Hestand. She had several brothers and sisters. The late Troy Waldon Hestand; the late Cody Udell Hestand; the late Myrtle Vaunell Hestand; the late Arley Wayne “Mack” Hestand, Lena Evelyn Sherman of Oklahoma City; the late J.B. Hestand and Leveda Fern Munden of Teague, Texas. Lorene married Carl Odell Turvaville on July 26, 1947, in Chillicothe. Carl passed away on January 9, 1967. She then married Floyd Wayne Scalf on August 21, 1973, and moved to California with him where he worked in a grocery store until the chain went out of business. They then moved to Vernon where he worked in a grocery store and she did some babysitting. About ten years ago, they moved to Lelia Lake where they lived with her son Carlton and wife Susan Turvaville. Lorene was a member of the Clarendon Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 sibilings and one son, Johnny Edwin Turvaville of Chillicothe.
She is survived by her 2 sisters; two sons, Carlton Turvaville of Lelia Lake and Danny Turvaville of Chillicothe; 2 daughters, Regina Master of Clovis, California and Belinda Humphrey of Pueblo, Colorado; a step daughter, Shannon V. Tate of Visalia, California; and one stepson, Billy Wayne Scalf of Bakersfield, California; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.
