The Clarendon Broncos varsity team completed in the TBC (Texas Basketball Championships) Summer State Tournament this weekend. The team was the Summer State Tournament winner in the D-3 Division and went undefeated in the tournament. The team has completed in several tournaments this summer in the Texas Panhandle and in Kansas only with the generous support of the community and their parents. They have been coached by Lance Wood and Jesse Lockhart. Sixteen Donley County 4-H members, four volunteers, and Donley County Extension Agent Leonard Haynes traveled to the annual 4-H Fishin’ Fun Camp and Tournament held at Mesa Vista Ranch on June 13 and 14. The fishermen were proud to bring the traveling trophy back to Donley County after losing it last year to Wheeler County. It seemed to have found a permanent home here for several years in a row until last year. The 2016-17 Bronco Cheerleaders spent three days at cheer camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas last week. The girls learned cheers, chants, and dances in order to lead the fans in cheering for the Broncos and Lady Broncos at the coming year’s sporting events. Three Bronco cheerleaders received All-American Nominations. These were: Senior Captain Brooke Smith, Senior Co-Captain Jensen Hatley, and Senior Co-Captain MaRae Hall. CHS mascot Sandrea Smith also received an award for “Most Spirited Mascot.” The girls are looking forward to cheering for the Broncos in the new school year. The 1926 Book Club hosted the recipients of their annual Eighth Grade Citizenship Award with a breakfast recently. The eighth grade students were Tanner Burch, accompanied by Sharon Braddock from Clarendon, and Collin Monroe, accompanied by Katherine Monroe from Hedley.
