Fishin’ Fun June 22, 2016 by Morgan Wheatly Leave a Comment Sixteen Donley County 4-H members, four volunteers, and Donley County Extension Agent Leonard Haynes traveled to the annual 4-H Fishin’ Fun Camp and Tournament held at Mesa Vista Ranch on June 13 and 14. The fishermen were proud to bring the traveling trophy back to Donley County after losing it last year to Wheeler County. It seemed to have found a permanent home here for several years in a row until last year. Cheerleaders receive honors June 22, 2016 by Morgan Wheatly Leave a Comment The 2016-17 Bronco Cheerleaders spent three days at cheer camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas last week. The girls learned cheers, chants, and dances in order to lead the fans in cheering for the Broncos and Lady Broncos at the coming year’s sporting events. Three Bronco cheerleaders received All-American Nominations. These were: Senior Captain Brooke Smith, Senior Co-Captain Jensen Hatley, and Senior Co-Captain MaRae Hall. CHS mascot Sandrea Smith also received an award for “Most Spirited Mascot.” The girls are looking forward to cheering for the Broncos in the new school year. The concrete in the existing gutter was badly deteriorated and had caused local citizens to fall recently. The eighth grade students were Tanner Burch, accompanied by Sharon Braddock from Clarendon, and Collin Monroe, accompanied by Katherine Monroe from Hedley. Club members attending were Ann Sell, Eva Lee Swinney, Glenda Hawkins, Allene Leathers, Mary Neal Risley, Temi Wardell, Renee Duncan, and Suzan Chassande-Baroz. Grades K-12 were represented, and projects included homemade board games, penguins, post-traumatic stress disorder, quilting, the sinking of the Titanic, bigfoot, UFOs, magnetic levitation, bread making, costume design, metal casting, robotics, and more.
