Mahdeene DeBord, 86, died Friday, December 2, 2011, in Amarillo.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011, in the Hedley Church of Christ with Bright Newhouse, Minister, officiating. Interment followed at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Bessie Mahdeene DeBord was born October 16, 1925, in Shamrock to I.M. and Allie Barrington.  She was the second of three children.  She moved to Amarillo at the age of three months.  She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1944, and worked at several banks in Amarillo until marrying Connie DeBord on December 8, 1951.  She moved to Hedley in 1955 where she became a homemaker and devoted wife for almost sixty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bob Barrington; and a sister, Ira Woods.

She is survived by her husband, Connie; two daughters, Connie Lee Wilson and husband Troy, and Deborah Flanary; four grandchildren, Cory and wife Shelley, Brad and wife Julie, Katherine, and Zachary; and four great grandchildren, Taylor, Joseph, Connor, and Collin.

The family suggests memorials be made to Rowe Cemetery Association.

Jean McAnear, 84, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Corpus Christi.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011, in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Lloyd Stice, Pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mrs. McAnear was born June 6, 1927, at the old Nelson Home place near Floydada to W.H. and Mildred Nelson.  She married Fed McAnear on December 6, 1947, in Plainview.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fed on February 4, 1997; a sister, Opal Hart, and a daughter, Darlene Dune.

She is survived by two sons, Jack Fed McAnear and wife Patricia of Corpus Christi, and Mike McAnear and wife Brenda of Amarillo; a daughter, Joyce Luehrs and husband Robert of Corpus Christi; her brother, H. Nelson and wife Loene of Lubbock; one sister, Lou Blodgett of Lubbock; seven grandchildren as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Johnnie Lee Lund, 64, longtime resident of Hedley, passed away November 27, 2011, at the Memphis Convalescent Home.

Memorial services will be 10:30 am Saturday, December 3, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church in Hedley with Rev. Darrell Burton, Chaplain of Hospice Care of the Southwest, officiating.  Private Burial was in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Johnnie was born December 7, 1946, in Amarillo, Texas to John and Mildred Lund.  He attended elementary school in Hedley and being from a military family he attended many schools across the country.  He graduated from high school in Houma, Louisiana. Johnnie was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, worked in the shipyards of Norfolk, Virginia, and on road construction for many years.

He was preceded in death by his mother; father; brother Harry Dwight Lund; and stepfather, L.J. Fontenot.

He is survived by his children Jason, Cynthia, Johnnie, Emory, Tiffany of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and many cousins and friends from Hedley.

Mattie Laura Brinson Hill, 91, died November 27, 2011.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel with Bright Newhouse and Connie DeBord officiating.  Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley.

Mattie was born in Donley County to Graham and Francis Brinson on December 14, 1919.  She was the oldest of three children and attended school in Hedley and Giles, Texas.  Mattie married the love of her life, W. E. “Tode” Hill at a very early age and they began their life journey together.  They farmed and worked very hard all their lives.  They shared their lives for 64 wonderful years.  Mattie always loved life and the work that was set before her.  She was never idle, but was never too busy when someone needed her help.  She was a long-time member of the Church of Christ.  After the passing of Tode in 1997, she left Donley County to live with her daughter in Amarillo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Kenneth, a sister, Dorothy, her husband, an infant son, and her beloved son-in-law, Don.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Ruth Owens; two grandchildren, Larry Owens and his wife Alta, and Karen Rogers and her husband, Eddie; four great-grandchildren, Laura Ann Owens, Donny Owens and his wife Colleen, Erin Rogers, and Chris Rogers and his wife Melissa; and was looking forward to meeting her great great-granddaughter, Riley.

Charles Lewis Brown, 81, died Thursday, November 17, 2011, in Amarillo.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011, in the South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo, with Rev. Bob Miller, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors was held at 2 pm at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.

Mr. Brown was born August 1, 1930, in Savoy to Charlie P. and Evelyn Blebsaw Brown. He married Mary Morrow on October 1, 1954, in Clarendon. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He had been a resident of Amarillo since 1962. He was kind hearted and loved his kids. He also enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting. He was a member of the South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Amarillo; his son, Gary Brown and wife Pat of Amarillo; his daughter, Gayle Roberson and husband Kevin of Amarillo; two brothers; two sisters; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorials be to the South Georgia Baptist Church Building Fund.

Perry Elvis White, 89, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, in Amarillo.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2011, in the Church of Christ in Clarendon with Tom Harguess and Chris Moore officiating. Burial was held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mr. White was born May 17, 1922, in Collingsworth County to Obie and Lydia Ogletree White. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving as Paratrooper. He married Betty Patterson on June 19, 1949, in Collingsworth County. Mr. White, along with his family, moved to Clarendon in 1974 from Haskell, Tx. After 19 years of service he retired from Texas Department of Transportation. Along with spoiling his beloved grandchildren, Mr. White loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Clarendon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Welman White; his son, Dale Elvis White in 1950; and his great granddaughter, Kaylee Needham.

He is survived by his wife, Betty White of Clarendon; his son, Ricky White and wife Nannette of Wellington; his daughter, Tammy White of Amarillo; 3 sisters, Marie Farris of Amarillo, Jo Helen Cabbell of Amarillo, and Geneva Thomas of Wellington; 2 brothers, Harold White of Hedley, and P.J. White of Wellington; five grandchildren, Devin White and wife Amber of Amarillo, Jordan White of Amarillo, Jeff Needham and wife Joanie of Wellington, Jacob Needham and wife Julie of Erick, Okla., and Jonathan Needham and wife Stephanie of Wellington; seven great grandchildren, Wesley, Chloe, Preston, Jalie, Jaci, Logan, and Anna.

Funeral services for Benjamin “Benny” Edens, 76, of Chickasha, Okla. were held Friday, November 4, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Heister McKenzie and Rev. Travis McKenzie officiated the service.

Benny was born the son of Bill Edens and Virginia Ford Edens on May 28, 1935, in Clarendon. He died on November 1, 2011, at his Chickasha home.

Benny grew up in Texas and worked on the family ranch. During this time, he was also a golden glove boxer. Benny went to work in the oilfield at a young age. He drove a truck for a short time, and then went back to the oilfield where he worked until retirement. The oilfield took him from Texas to California then to Oklahoma. Benny moved to Chickasha in 1978. He married Anna Grimbs on May 14, 1979, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Virginia Edens; and grandson, Clayton Edens.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Edens of the home; sons and wives Bobby and Diane Edens of California, Bernie and Mardalynne Edens of California, Brady and Dawn Edens of California, Ben Edens of Tulsa, Robert and Lorrie Buckner of Chickasha, Okla., Larry and Karen Buckner of Texas, Max and Linda Buckner of Arkansas, Jack and Michaelyn Buckner of Chickasha, Okla.; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother and wife Bill and Bobbie Edens of California.

 

Jimmy Lee Butler, 85, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Corpus Christi.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2011, in First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Jerry Lane, pastor of First United Methodist Church of White Deer, officiating. Burial followed at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Jim was born October 28, 1926, in Amarillo to John Luther and Rachel Roberts Butler.  He joined the Navy when he was 17 years old during WW II and was stationed in the Philippine Islands where he flew with the Army Air Corps.  After being honorably discharged, he attended college and earned an Associate’s Degree.  He earned an Aviation License and maintained his license until his death.  He had a lifelong love of flying.  He lived most of his life in Clarendon until moving to Corpus Christi about 27 years ago.  Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge as well as the National Rifle Association.  He also had a love of cars and racing.  Jim raced dwarf cars where he was rookie of the year even though he was the oldest driver on the circuit at age 79.  He enjoyed cooking and even won the annual chili cook-off in Corpus Christi in 2010 and 2011.  While living in Clarendon, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Bob Butler.

Survivors include his sons, Randy Stone of Dallas and David Butler of Corpus Christi; daughter, Rhonda Wilson of San Antonio; sister, Marilyn Gilger of Perryton; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Cindy Winn, 62, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Amarillo.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2011, in the Robertson Funeral Directors Saints Roost Chapel in Clarendon with Bright Newhouse, Minister of the Hedley Church of Christ, officiating. Burial followed at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Cindy was born July 15, 1949, in Lamar, Okla. to Cecil and Mamie Mills.  She married Buddy Winn on April 9, 1970, in Amarillo. She had been a resident of Lelia Lake before moving to Amarillo in 1974. She liked crafts and had a booth every year during the July 4th Celebration in Clarendon. She also enjoyed painting, gardening, animals and she loved her family especially her grandkids.  She was a member of Hillside Christian Church in Amarillo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wesley Mills and Dale Mills; and a sister, Josephine King.

She is survived by her husband, Buddy of Amarillo; her son, Shad Winn and wife Mandi of Amarillo; a daughter, Stephanie Cordle and husband Charles of Amarillo; two brothers, J.C. Mills of Amarillo and Wiley Mills of Holdenville, Okla.; a sister, Ann Bradshaw of Benbrook; four grandchildren, Shilo Cordle, Shea Cordle, Dalton Winn, and Peyton Winn.

Wesley Edward Sparks, 33, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, in Howardwick.

Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, in the First Baptist Church in Clarendon. Cremation and services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Wesley was born November 11, 1977, in Cincinnati, OH to Teri Lynn and Dana Sparks, Sr.  He married Tammy Lynn Sitz on May 29, 1999, in Amarillo.  He had been a resident of Howardwick for the past 11 years and was a customer service technician for AT&T.  He loved hunting, fishing, friends, family, and his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his best friend, Joey.

He is survived by his mother, Teri Lynn Salazar of Amarillo; his wife, Tammy Sparks of Howardwick; three brothers, Dana Sparks of Amarillo, Micah Sparks of Lubbock, and Mickey Strong of Ft. Worth; five sisters, Trisha Howe and husband Joey of Canyon, Emily Vernon of Gainesville, Anna Demel of Schulenburg, Candy Strong and LaDonna Strong; his nieces and nephews, Caitlynn, Khloe, and Alex; and his dogs, Zeus, Missy, and Bird Bird.
